About Our Martial Arts School in Morrisville

Our Story

Balance Martial Arts has proudly served the Cary/Morrisville area since 2009. Chris and I both began martial arts training in 1991, and the lessons we learned through years of study continue to shape how we teach today.

Why We Chose the Name Balance

We chose the name Balance Martial Arts because balance is central to our philosophy. Martial arts is not just about physical ability. It is about discipline, humility, confidence, self-control, and learning how to grow in a balanced way both on and off the mat.

Our Approach to Training

Our school is rooted in the ancient art of Shorin Ryu Karate, which remains the foundation of our teaching. Chris’s highest rank is 5th degree in Shorin Ryu Karate, and his training has also included Aikido, jiu-jitsu, Krav Maga, kung fu, iaijutsu, kenjutsu, traditional kobudo, and other martial arts.

Teaching the Student in Front of Us

We teach students from age 3 through adulthood, and we believe that instruction should match the student. The way you teach a toddler is not the way you teach a teenager or an adult.

What We Hope Students Gain

Our goal is to help students grow in skill, confidence, focus, self-control, resilience, and respect. We want students to leave class stronger, steadier, and better prepared to meet challenges both in and out of the dojo.

Our kids have been going to Balance Martial Arts for over 2 years now. Sensei Chris is an excellent instructor and works very closely with the kids to teach them karate skills and also helps them with other soft skills via monthly homeworks like patience, leadership, persistence etc. He also tries to make it fun for the kids with games at the end of the class. I would highly recommend it!
